Subject - contemporary abstract artist Katiel biography. Does abstract paintings of mountain landscape - fall colors.

About Katiel

“These paintings make me happy” is the common response to Vail, Colorado artist Katiel's work. Her favorite subject, Colorado's landscapes burst with life thanks to a style unique even by abstract standards.

Intertwining bands of vibrant color created by powerful upward brush strokes flow across the canvas. Their shapes, an undulating ebb and flow of light, remind one of the Northern Lights … their luminous dance in artic skies.

This dazzling display of beauty is equaled only by the intriguing composition. From up close, the work appears to be completely abstract. But step back and suddenly it looks more akin to realist. The effect is often mesmerizing to viewers.

Perhaps her Native American Indian ancestry had something to do with her deep attachment to nature and artistic bent, or maybe it was growing up on North Carolina's outer banks. Either way, she was accepted into North Carolina State's school of art and design at 16. She later studied (for eight years) in Tokyo Japan, Paris and New York City. Nine years ago she settled in Vail Colorado. These are some of her most recent contemporary abstract landscapes.
